If you’ve lived in the South long enough, you know the drill. The moment the forecast whispers the word snow, grocery store shelves go bare, bread and milk disappear like magic, and everyone suddenly becomes a meteorologist. Is it going to stick? Is it going to be ice? Should schools close for a week just in case?
While the rest of the South is debating French toast logistics, Capital Waste Services is busy preparing behind the scenes to keep you informed and keep our crews safe.
We’re Always Watching the Weather (So You Don’t Have To)
Storm preparation at Capital Waste starts long before the first snowflake—or raindrop—hits the ground. Our team closely monitors weather forecasts and road conditions so we can make smart, safe decisions about service.
As conditions change, we communicate with customers through multiple channels to make sure you’re never left guessing:
- 📱 Social media updates with real-time service information
- 💻 Customer Portal notifications
- 📧 Email alerts
- 📞 Phone calls and text messages if opted into phone communications
- Website Banner with service notifications
Your Customer Portal = Your Best Friend During Storms
One of the most important things customers can do—especially during severe weather—is make sure they’re opted in to notifications.
You can do this easily through your Customer Portal, where you can:
- Opt in to email, call, and text notifications
- View service updates and announcements
- Stay informed about any weather-related changes
Being opted in ensures you get timely updates straight from us—no rumors, no guessing, and no relying on your neighbor’s cousin’s Facebook post.
Safety Comes First—Always
As much as we know trash day matters (and it really does), the safety of our crews and everyone on the road is our top priority.
During storms or hazardous conditions:
- Routes may be delayed or adjusted
- Service will resume once conditions are safe to do so
- Our drivers will complete collections as quickly as safely possible
Our team members are out in large, heavy vehicles, and icy or dangerous roads can pose serious risks. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to protect our crews, our customers, and our communities.
How You Can Help
Once you hear we are back up and running customers can also take a few simple steps to help make service safer and more accessible during stormy or icy conditions:
- 🧹 Clear snow, ice, and debris from around carts, dumpsters, and enclosures when it’s safe to do so
- 🚗 Move parked vehicles away from carts and service areas to allow safe access
- 🧊 Treat icy areas near containers, gates, and drive paths if possible
- 🚧 Ensure gates are unlocked and access points are clear on service days
These small actions go a long way in helping our drivers safely reach your containers and complete service as efficiently as possible. A clear, accessible service area helps protect both our crews and your property.
We ask for patience in times of winter weather, even though roads may be clear, trees may still be too low to drive underneath, we will do everything we can to communicate with you along the way.
We’ve Got the Plan—You’ve Got the Bread and Milk
Southern snow may be unpredictable, but our commitment to communication, safety, and service isn’t. Whether it’s snow, ice, heavy rain, or severe storms, Capital Waste Services is prepared—and we’ll keep you informed every step of the way.
So go ahead and stock up on your bread and milk (we won’t judge). Just make sure you’re opted in to notifications and bring your patience, we’ll handle the rest.
Proudly serving our communities—rain, shine, or one-inch snow apocalypse.
